Gossiping and lying go hand in hand．流言与谎话同行。
此谚语原出自《圣经》，现在也有写作：Gossiping and lying go together。gossip作为名词是“闲谈”或“流言飞语”，作？患拔锒示褪恰按チ餮苑捎铩薄ie作为名词是“谎话”，作？患拔锒示褪恰八祷选薄A秸咴诖俗髦饔锒际悄馊嘶梅āo hand in hand这里也可作“勾结在一起”。
类似意思的谚语有：
Where there is whispering there is lying．
有耳语必有谎言。（耳语往往是不公开讲的，所以大多是流言、谎言）
A tale runs as it pleases the teller．
流言飞语都是别人随意乱讲的。
Lies have short legs．
谎言总是站不住脚的。
以上谚语的意思是：凡是说长道短的流言必然混杂着许多不合事实的谎话，所以切勿轻信。
但是有时流言也会事出有因，这就是另一组谚语所说的：There is no smoke without fire.
